Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. It sounds to me like your system of unspecified make and model might be overheating for the shutting down part. If you are performing video intensive operations like watching videos or playing games, etc. Mostly I think systems should be able to handle this, but if your system is not getting enough fresh air circulation because of a a dust accumulation in the cooling vents, a dust clogged heat sink s , a defective cooling fan, etc.

If it is a laptop, laptops aren’t really made to be run from your lap since that may block the the air circulation. If your system runs fine as long as you are not doing these things and only overheats when performing video intensive things, your system is designed hopefully to power off so it can get a chance to cool off, then things will work okay again for a while until it overheats again. There will usually be no warning, nothing will get logged in any log file That is not the same as shutting down – it just completely shuts off.

Your system may not start up again right away until it sits for a bit and things cool off. After it cools of a bit, it will start back up and then shut off again. Depending on your system make and model, it may present you with an Alert! Not knowing fundamental information about a problem prolongs the frustration and agony of resolving these issues. Thank you MS Answers, for continuing to make the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and time consuming as possible.

Please provide additional information about your system as best you can: What is your system make and model? What is your Internet browser and version? Do you have the problematic Windows Desktop Search installed?

If the system used to work properly, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did work properly? If the system was working okay yesterday, what do you think happened between yesterday and today? This site in other languages x.
