Dear Microsoft – I’m hoping that you can help me. I work for a hotel and keep track of the number of rooms sold, their type and the dollar amount that each is sold for. Sunday – Thursday evening I can simply export the list of information I need from our hotel’s operating system to Excel as an Excel file and run a macro that figures it. However, I’m not at the hotel on Friday and Saturday nights and so don’t have access to this list. When I return on Sunday night I have to obtain a copy of it from our archive folder in the server and our system saves it as a Word file specifically a.
The document itself in Word has rows and columns and every item is a specific little box so I would think it’d be easy to export it to Excel.
But the research I’ve done indicates that. I’m hoping that someone can help as it’s very tedious and tiring to have to manually enter the code for those two days Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Thanks for the info Peter!

I have an rtf document with tables converted to rtf from pdf and I opened it in Word. Now I want to copy the tables from Word to Excel. However, the individual cells in Word have carriage returns within the cell. When I copy and paste to Excel, each time there is a carriage return, Excel dumps the text into a new cell. How do I get Excel to put the contents of the Word table cell into one Excel cell? Right now I am having to manually merge the cells or copy the text from multiple cells into one cell.
Very time consuming and laborious. Any help is appreciated. Without seeing your actual document, it is not possible to determine the best approach, but it may be to use the Replace facility in Word to “remove” all of the carriage returns, or replace them with a space.
My original document was in FrameMaker. Then I copied and pasted into Excel. That gave me the results I wanted but, of course, all the text came out without carriage returns or bulleted lists that I had inside the cells of the tables. It is a little messy but far better than having to merge cells or unmerge cells to get the text into one cell.
Thanks for your quick reply. We usually give our clients PDFs but someone asked for a spreadsheet so now we are trying to accommodate them. This site in other languages x.
